VALUE DELIVERED
$299,475 in energy savings in seven years; savings guaranteed before construction; improved building comfort; better lighting; lower operating costs; competitive financing; ongoing economies, efficiencies and investment returns.
OBJECTIVES
To upgrade and modernize the mechanical and electrical systems in its 216,000-squarefoot school; to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
SOLUTIONS
This client chose ECS Midwest to upgrade its 30-year-old HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and lighting equipment with some of today’s most advanced energy-saving technologies. ECS Midwest began by providing the client with an expert, independent and objective evaluation of the energy-saving options available to it. On the basis of this study, ECS Midwest also guaranteed energy savings of $264,360 over 10 years. However, the client reached that goal after just six years. By the end of the seventh year, the ECS Midwest installation had realized total savings of $299,475.
To achieve these savings, ECS Midwest installed a leading-edge energy management system that automatically optimized the efficiency of the client’s new HVAC technologies. In addition to an R-22 chiller that replaced an old R-11 unit, these technologies included a new cooling tower and high-efficiency pump motors with variable speed drives. ECS Midwest also upgraded the existing fluorescent lighting system with energy-saving T8 lamps and electronic ballasts.
