CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The Liberty-Perry Community School Corporation was looking to replace lighting and develop ECMs at Wapahani High School that would reduce energy use and costs.
VALUE DELIVERED
ECS Midwest provided systems upgrades that will result in $230,891.00 in energy savings each year for 15 years for a total of $3,463,365.00. These savings will pay for the entire project with an additional savings of $1 million.
PROJECT SOLUTIONS
The first phase at Wapahani High School consisted of upgrading classroom HVAC systems with dual-temperature two-pipe vertical unit ventilators. The systems included two-pipe horizontal unit ventilators and four-pipe VUV units for temperature and humidity control. ECS Midwest installed two-pipe fan coil units to provide heating and air to the existing guidance office.
The kitchen and administrative office received an HVAC upgrade that included two DX cooling and hot water heating horizontal unit ventilators with two roof top condensing units. Boiler upgrades were made and consisted of one high-efficiency condensing boiler to utilize low temperature hot water to maximize boiler efficiencies.
A boiler management system panel was installed and tied into the new energy management system to allow for sequence boiler operations and to maximize boiler efficiencies.
The chiller was replaced with an air-cooled chiller with chilled water circulating pumps. Finally, temperature controls were changed for the central hot water/chilled water dual temperature system to a new BACnet BAS system, enhanced by web client software that will allow interface from the school’s intranet. A new energy sequence of operations will be used to operate the facility, including Optimum start/stop, night setback, holiday scheduling, occupancy control, demand ventilation control, and hot water/chilled water reset to operate the facility in the most efficient manner. ECS Midwest replaced metal halide light fixtures with T5 and T8 fluorescent fixtures in the gymnasium, with lighting control through the new energy management system.
The second phase of this project involved replacement of the dual temperature and four-pipe heating and cooling water distribution piping.
