VALUE DELIVERED
A 17-percent reduction in energy consumption; more than $181,000 in energy savings over eight years; savings guaranteed by contractor; improved building comfort; better lighting; lower operating costs; competitive financing; protection of capital; ongoing economies, efficiencies and investment returns.
OBJECTIVES
To upgrade the heating and lighting systems for three facilities, covering a total of approximately 170,000 s.f., while reducing operating costs and environmental impact.
SOLUTIONS
ECS Midwest self-performed this entire project, starting with an expert analysis of the energysaving opportunities available to the client. Based on that analysis, ECS Midwest provided independent, objective recommendations of technologies that would achieve the school’s goals. Moreover, ECS Midwest guaranteed specific energy savings under a multi-year performance contract. The company even helped the school finance its investment in energy savings through an attractive third-party financing package that spread the payments over 10 years, enabling the savings to help pay for the upgrades.
A key to the project’s success was a sophisticated energy management system, which ECS Midwest installed to monitor, control and optimize the performance of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) equipment. ECS Midwest also retrofitted the buildings’ lighting systems and modified the unit ventilators to improve their operation and efficiency. In addition, ECS Midwest put in electrical power surge protection to safeguard system components from damage caused by voltage fluctuations.
Additional information: ECS Midwest guaranteed energy savings of $164,467 over 10 years; it took just slightly over seven years to reach that amount. By the end of the eighth year, the client had saved over $181,000.
