VALUE DELIVERED
More than $1.38 million in guaranteed average annual savings on energy and operational costs over 10 years; improved building air quality and comfort; better lighting;enhanced security; increased weather protection; prevention of electrical outages;extended life for HVAC systems; streamlined, simplified maintenance; ongoing economies, efficiencies and investment returns.
OBJECTIVES
To improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and minimize payback periods at six schools while enhancing the learning and teaching environments.
SOLUTIONS
Selected by Duneland School Corporation as its single-source supplier, ECS Midwest self-performed the full scope of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work needed to achieve this client’s objectives.
In addition to installing new boilers in all six schools, ECS Midwest put in new cooling systems at five of the facilities to meet the needs of administration areas, gymnasiums and — with the exception of Bailly Elementary — computer labs. ECS Midwest also installed generators at Bailly, Westchester Intermediate School, and Yost Elementary School. And the company upgraded the weather-protection features at Brummitt, Jackson, and Liberty elementary schools.
Additional work in individual schools included installation of a new domestic hot water heater, hot water pump, and building controls for Bailly Elementary School. ECS Midwest also replaced Brummitt’s air-handling unit, domestic hot water heater, hot water pump, reheat terminal, building controls, and chilled water pump, while retrofitting the school’s interior lighting with more energy-efficient components.
At Jackson Elementary, ECS Midwest replaced the HVAC system, building controls, domestic hot water heater, and electrical panel. Here, too, the company retrofit the interior lighting for greater energy efficiency, while also upgrading exterior lighting to increase security.
To improve operations at Liberty Elementary School, ECS Midwest replaced the hot and chilled water pumps, as well as the reheat terminal controls and an air handling unit. Furthermore, the company put in additional electrical receptacles and enhanced exterior security lighting.
ECS Midwest improved the learning environment at Westchester Intermediate School in several ways. It converted the HVAC system from a two-pipe to a four-pipe design and replaced the unit ventilator, boiler room valve, building controls, light fixture lens, and condenser water pump. The company also increased the number of electrical receptacles and fit the toilets with sensor flush valves.
Finally, ECS Midwest installed new, more energy efficient windows at the Brummitt and Liberty facilities, and doors at the Liberty and Jackson locations.
